Mud Mask

Before I begin listing the products, let’s take a look at what may be causing your acne, redness, dryness or other skin problem. Before using any products, find out if it is necessary by checking off the following possible causes that you have control over.

Possible Causes of Acne:

  • Medications that contain Androgen or Lithium.
  • Greasy Cosmetics (or cheap ones!)
  • Stress
  • Not Cleaning your Cell Phone, or frequently touch your face)
  • Not Changing/Washing your Pillowcases.
  • Lack of Sleep
  • Diet. (Consuming too much sugar, caffiene, and fast food).

Are you using cheap cosmetic products? (For example, e.l.f, Wet & Wild, etc…).

Possible Causes of Redness:

  • Using the wrong products to wash your face.
  • Using too much exfoliating products.

Okay, so if you are doing all of those tips on prevention and still are not having any luck, always consult a doctor, because you may have a treatable skin condition.

Alright, let’s get to the skin products! After all “this is what you came for“, right!? Oh, and did I mention all of these products are under $20.00? Well, I am mentioning it now. I like to think of myself as a thrifty shopper who can find good products without spending a fortune. 🙂

1. Exfoliating Face Scrub by Foxbrim

Face Scrub Green Tea

I literally used this after the gym today, and I can’t even begin to tell you how soothing it is. Now remember, this is an exfoliator, so you should only use it once a week. This scrub contains green tea, white tea, jojoba beads, olive butter, coffee extract, avacado butter, and kukui nut oil, which contribute to the scrub’s ability to exfoliate in a hydrating and gentle way.

What else does it do?

  • Has antioxidant and anti-aging properties.
  • Moisturizes Skin
  • Tighten and Protect
  • Repair/Prevent Wrinkles
  • Clears Blemishes

I can definitely personally verify that it does hydrate skin very well and reduces alot of redness and uneven skin tone. A must buy for sure, y’all!

2. Neutrogena Rapid Clear Maximum Strength Treatment Pads

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Pads

So, I don’t want to knock Noxzema because I still love the Anti-Blemish Noxzema pads, but these have really helped prevent breakouts better than anything I have used before. When you apply it, you don’t feel like your face is melting off by some disney-witch concocted potion. I go to the gym a lot and I use these immediately after my workout, after rinsing my face of with water, and it works wonders. You should be able to find it in your local drug store, but if not, no worries, because once again Amazon saves the day.

3. Toulon Gentle Milk Cleanser: For Dry and Sensitive Skin

Gentle Face Wash

And here you go, another 5-star product that I have discovered. I have very senstive skin on my face, and I never know when a product with cause a bad reaction. This one didn’t give me any problems!

The product contains lactic acid, antioxidants, Vitamins A & D, aloe vera, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, milk, buttermilk, flower extract, witch hazel, and leaf juice. It is definitely one of the most gentle products that I have used.

4. Aveeno Ultra-Calming Cleansing Makeup Removing Wipes

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Cleansing Makeup Removing Wipes

This product is such a gem. The product really does what it says. I use these right before bed to remove any lingering make-up and they work excellent for make-up removal (including waterproof mascara), and they really are calming and super friendly to sensitive skin.

Remember, although these products do not specifically state that they help control acne, prevent redness or moisturize, they still contribute to important factors that keep your skin moisturized and clean, to prevent things such as irritation or acne.

5. Exhydro Ceramid Complex Moisturizer by Skederm

hydrating moisturizer

This is a super hydrating moisturizer that will make the application of makeup much easier if you are experiencing those pesky dry spots under your eyes or cheeks. The worst thing ever is trying to apply foundation over a dry spot because then you can see your foundation even drying up and flaking in that area and it is SO annoying. This not only prevents that problem from happening but also helps protect your skin from have exzema breakouts or acne.

6. Vie Naturelle Anti-Acne Medication Cream

Acne Treatment Face Cream

This product is excellent for acne and acne prevention. The ingredients include benzoyl peroxide and essential oils that have a wonderful effect by keeping my skin soft and ance free. I would say it is most effective at preventing break outs. (Tea Tree Oil is one of the ingredients, which is a miracle oil that you should also check out!).

7. Radha Rose Water Toner

Radha Organics Rose Water

So, you could probably use any brand of rose water, but this is the one I have that works effectively. I find that if I use it underneath makeup, along with a green tinted cream toner (I will post about that later in this post), it prevents me from getting as red.

The best part? Smells like Roses…..mmmmmm!

8. ArtNaturals Clear Skin Drying Lotion

Acne Treatment Drying Lotion

Don’t take the name of the product so literal, because it will not dry out your skin. Instead, it is a spot treatment which works extremely well on those big knarly pimples that literally look like they are about to explode and contaminate the entire planet. It does effectively dry out pimples, making them less noticable, and you can apply make-up over it after you cover up any acne or blemishes. Definitely a favorite of mine.

Other effects:

  • Softly and gently removes blemishes and age spots while treating acne
  • Natural extracts penetrate clogged pores, dissolving and peeling dead skin cells
  • Fast acting formula absorbs quickly without greasiness

9. Matcha Green Tea Facial Mud Mask

Green Tea Face Mask Mud

The color of this mask automatically tells you that it acts as a face toner, but also hydrates your skin, reduces blemishes and the size of pores, redness acne and blackheads. It is also very gentle and soothing for the skin, so again, my fellow senstive-skin folks, this product won’t fail you.

10. Maybelline Master Prime Redness Control

Maybelline Master Prime Primer Base Redness

This can be used for under your make-up obviously, but you can also wear it alone and it really does reduce redness and tone out your entire face if you choose to apply it everywhere. I personally just apply it to my nose and my upper cheek area, where redness affects me most and it works great. I would consider this product more of an on-the-go product for quick results rather something you can use everyday that helps your skin naturally provides results.

The product is green, which is important, why? Well, because red cancels out green on the color wheel, resulting in the neutralization of redness. Take a look at the color wheel below and notice how green and red are directly across each other:

Using this wheel you can also use yellow tinted hair as an example. People who bleach their hair often get a yellow tone left over that makes their hair look like the color of a banana. To fix this, you can use purple shampoo or toners to correct the color. Purple and yellow are also directly across from eachother. See! 🙂

These are just some of the many products that I use to keep my face as healthy as I can. I have never used ProActive, Bio-Oil or other products that are popular for acne and/or redness relief, but if you have any recommendations that aren’t on this list, please let me know in the comment below. Because let’s “FACE” it (haha), we all want to feel like this:
